Flashcards
Flashcards are an invaluable aid when learning new lists from scratch.
The essential principle is that a word and its answer are flashed during a test.
Then, after a pause, you are asked to translate that same word.
Flashcard preferences can be found by choosing Preferences from the Edit
menu, and clicking on the Test Settings tab.
A blue gradiated background indicates a flashcard is being displayed.

The default display time is 2.5 seconds for both words, then a 2.5 second pause
with a blank screen, followed by the question.
Flashcards can be very useful when beginning to learn a list.
The following options are also available:
"...only when repeating a question"
If this option is checked, flashcards will only be shown when repeating a
question on an incorrect answer. ("On incorrect answer: Repeat question" must
be selected for this option to have any effect.)
"... only for problem words"
If this option is chosen, flashcards will only be shown for problem words (see
the problem words chapter for more information on problem words.) If both
this option and "... only when repeating a question" are selected, the flash cards
will be shown for either.
"Speak the words"
When this option is selected your Mac will speak the word and its translation,
using Apple's Text to Speech technology (if installed.)
The speech options use the voice settings described in the Speech control panel.
If you wish to change them, use the "Configure speech" button. To hear an
example of the current settings, click the gramophone button.
We recommend you use an easy to understand voice like "Victoria, high
quality."
